HP Spectre x360 15 introduced: compact format despite large display

At this year’s CES in Las Vegas, HP presented the update of its flagship notebook. With the HP Spectre X360, the US notebook expert presented extensive design innovations. The new edition features a virtually borderless display and an overall compact format.

Modern design

The HP Spectre X360 is a 15 inch notebook. This is hard to believe at first glance. After all, the dimensions of HP’s new showcase notebook look more like those of a 14 inch notebook. Thanks to an almost borderless display, HP has been able to make these compact dimensions possible. With the help of the tiltable display, the notebook can easily be transformed into a tablet. At the latest here, the user benefits from the small dimensions. HP relies on understatement in the overall impression. True to the motto “less is more”, soft colors should be used.

Strong hardware

A look at the specs of the new Spectre X360 published by HP lets expectations soar. Thus, powerful Comet Lake processors from Intel are built into the notebook. The buyer can even opt for OLED in Ultra-HD resolution for the display. Breathtaking image renditions should be possible here. In the new Spectre, HP has installed a revised webcam that comes with an infrared camera. This enables registration using biometric data. Instead of the previous 6mm, the new camera only needs just over 2mm. This also favours the borderless design of the HP Spectre X360. A fast 512 Gb SSD provides the necessary storage space.

The slim and modern design of the HP Spectre X360 convinces at first glance.

Proven and new features

But something also remains the same – the “Kill Switch”. This enables a complete separation of the webcam from the power supply. So the user does not need any annoying stickers to protect himself from uninvited observers. The microphone is now also equipped with a similar button. HP has installed a function button on the Spectre X360 with which the microphone can be deactivated easily. However, a complete disconnection of the power supply is not necessary. The only purpose is to prevent unwanted Windows searches from being triggered.

Impressive OLED technology

OLED technology is now an integral part of the smartphone and TV world. HP is now also relying on display technology, which produces incredible contrasts thanks to perfect black levels. Alternatively, buyers of the new HP Spectre X360 can opt for a version with an OLED touch display. This offers a resolution in 4k. A big disadvantage of OLED technology is the strong reflections. HP uses a special coating in this regard, which is supposed to prevent strong reflections.

Strong battery

Thanks to a combination of a large battery and an energy-efficient processor, a battery life of up to 17 hours should be possible. HP continues to rely on its partner Intel for its built-in chips. The HP Spectre X360 is equipped with 10th generation Core i processors. Here, the buyer can decide on a strong Core i7 processor at most. The processor is supported by a 15 Watt CPU with 2.666 MHz. In addition to a space-saving iGPU, HP has installed another graphics card on the board. Exactly which graphics card is involved is still unknown. Every notebook runs out of juice at some point. Should this be the case with the Spectre X360, the user will benefit from the built-in quick charge function. This makes it possible to charge the slim notebook’s battery half full within 30 minutes.

Price and availability

The HP flagship will be available in the company’s own online shop from March this year. Prices for the HP Spectre X360 are expected to start at around $1600 USD.
