Motorola One Vision Brings 48 Megapixel Camera into Smartphone Middle Class

Motorola has released the One Vision, a spectacular mid-range smartphone that is now available for 299 Euro in some regions. In Germany the Smartphone appears on 1 June, in advance can be ordered the equipment also here already now. Pre-orderers also receive the wireless headset Vervebuds 500 free of charge, which is offered separately for about 90 euros. The Motorola One Vision is available in blue and bronze, but the colour changes significantly depending on the incidence of light.

At first glance, the large and very long 21:9 display is particularly striking, reminiscent of the Sony Xperia 10. The built-in LCD panel has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,520 pixels, the diagonal is 6.3 inches. The camera is mounted in the upper left corner of the display due to the narrow frame. Motorola has chosen the position of the 25 megapixel front camera as it is not covered by right-handed people when using it.

Regular updates thanks to Android One

The Motorola One Vision comes with a virtually unchanged Android One that continues to support the familiar Moto gestures. Google guarantees updates to the new version of the mobile operating system for at least two years and security updates for three years. Motorola itself guarantees updates to Android 10 and Android 11 as well as security updates for three years from the launch in May.

The System-on-a-Chip (SoC) does not come from Qualcomm, as is usual with Motorola, but is purchased from Samsung. The built-in components are quite good for a smartphone in this price range. Besides the Exynos 9609 (4 Cortex-A73 cores, 4 Cortex-A53 cores), the smartphone has 4 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory as well as a Mali G72 MP3 GPU. An additional slot can be used either for dual SIM operation or for memory expansion via SD card. Only one configuration is offered.

Night Mode and Pixel Binning

According to Motorola, the name “One Vision” should not only focus on the particularly large display, but also on the built-in main camera. The dual camera offers a primary sensor with 48 megapixels, whose photos offer 12 megapixels resolution thanks to quadruple pixel binning. Pixel binning is used to increase the luminous efficacy of the 0.8 µm pixels. The effective pixel size should therefore be 1.6 µm. The aperture is f/1.7 and optical image stabilization is also available. The technical data of the camera indicate a Sony IMX586 sensor, which is also used in the Xiaomi Mi 9. The night mode in combination with the pixel binning should provide good pictures even in bad light.

The secondary camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels. It is intended for taking portraits and collecting depth information. A telephoto or ultra wide angle lens is not included.

The equipment is rounded off by a fingerprint sensor on the back as well as a 3.5 mm jack connection. The IP52 certification promises protection against dust and splash water, but the Motorola One Vision is not really waterproof.
