MWC 2019 – AVM with Four New WLAN Mesh Repeaters and Gigabit FRITZ!Box

In the run-up to the Mobile Word Congress (MWC) at the end of February, the Berlin-based company AVM has announced four new WLAN mesh repeaters and a new FRITZ! box for Gigabit Internet. AVM has also changed the name from FRITZ!WLAN-Repeater to FRITZ!repeater. All announced devices supported FRITZ!OS 7 and should receive several updates according to AVM. However, the company does not specify a specific time period for this.

The name extension of the FRITZ! repeaters 600, 1200, 2400 and 3000 indicates the maximum possible bandwidth under ideal conditions. On a positive note, all announced FRITZ! repeaters are also compatible with hardware from other manufacturers thanks to WPS support. In addition, the repeaters automatically synchronize their settings with the central FRITZ! box even after the initial setup. Band Steering, AP Steering and Crossband Repeating for power tuning are also automatically supported.

The two entry-level models FRITZ! repeaters 600 and 1200 will be available from the second quarter of 2019. AVM has not yet published the prices. The particularly small FRITZ! repeater 600 is only 5 x 5 cm in size. It only supports single-band WLAN with a maximum of 600 Mbit/s, without a LAN connection. The FRITZ! repeater 1200 comes with a Gigabit LAN port and dual band WLAN with up to 1,266 Mbit/s.

The FRITZ! repeater 2400, also available in the second quarter of 2019, achieves up to 2,333 Mbit/s per frequency band thanks to its four antennas used in parallel. He also has a Gigabit LAN port on board. AVM has not yet quoted the prices for this repeater either.

The top model FRITZ!Repeater 3000 is already available and is offered for almost 130 Euro. AVM promotes this repeater with “long range and high data throughput”. The repeater has three radio units and two Gigabit LAN ports for this purpose. A maximum of 400 Mbit/s is possible in the 2.4 GHz range and 866 Mbit/s and 1,733 Mbit/s in the 5 GHz range. In addition, the repeater has dimmable LEDs that indicate the status of the device.

New FRITZ!Box models

AVM has also announced new FRITZ!Box routers, which will provide speeds of up to 1 GBit/s.

The FRITZ!Box 6591 Cable enables you to surf the net via cable connection at Gigabit speed in cities like Bochum, where DOCSIS 3.1 has already been expanded. The new FRITZ!Box 6890 LTE with its combination of DSL and LTE modum also ensures high speed and excellent availability thanks to the two independently functioning Internet connections. Also new is the FRITZ!Box 7583, which supports Supervectoring 35b as well as G.fast with 106 MHz and 212 MHz to get the maximum speed out of conventional DSL connections. The presentation at the fair will be rounded off by the FRITZ!Box 5491 and 5490, which are suitable for active and passive fiber optic connections.
