MWC 2019: Lenovo ThinkPad T490, T490s and T590

At the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Lenovo takes the opportunity to present three new ThinkPad laptops. The new ThinkPads of the T-Series have been redesigned especially with regard to weight and device dimensions. Current technology is also finding its way into the company.

The T940 is now much more compact than its predecessor. The T590, on the other hand, is not smaller, but lighter. The premium model T490s now saves on case thickness – of course with loss of connections.

The premium version of the T-Series now has a keyboard integrated into the palm rest to ensure more stability. On the other two models, the speakers are now on the top. All infrared camera models now feature the ThinkShutter camera aperture.

All three models feature a QHD display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, which are now 500 cd/m² brighter than the older models. Optionally, the T590 can also be configured with a 4K UHD display. The 14-inch versions of the T490 and T490s are also available with Full HD screens at 400cd/m², which have an ePrivacy solution factory installed.

Due to the difference in weight and size compared to the predecessors, connections are also lost – inside as well as outside. So there is no SD but a MicroSD card reader. The T490s does not have a LAN connection, RJ45 cables are only possible via an adapter. The two models T490 and T590 have only one single RAM slot in connection with internally soldered RAM (max. 48 GB). The T490s only has up to 32 GB of soldered RAM. The fact that there is no longer a 2.5-inch hard disk slot will be the subject of much discussion.

Only an Intel graphics chip is built into the T490s. Optionally, an Nvidia GeForce MX250 can be selected in the T490 and T590. Although the battery is not small with 50 watt hours with the T490 and 57 watt hours with the T590, an external battery is now completely omitted.
