From April 2020, the holder for SIM cards issued by Vodafone will only be half the size it is today. The format of the SIM card (Mini, Micro or Nano) will not change. The change only affects the plastic holder in which the actual smart card is located.
The change affects all 24 European markets in which Vodafone operates. The measure is intended to save more than 340 tonnes of plastic waste and more than 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Vodafone also referred to eSIM, which has long been an alternative to the physical SIM card. Anyone who uses the eSIM can completely dispense with plastic. To date, around 100,000 of these electronic alternatives have been registered with Vodafone.
