Gearbest has now responded to the massive data glitch that we recently reported. According to the online retailer, public access to sensitive customer data is now no longer possible.
The Chinese online retailer also announced that the breakdown is said to have been caused by switching off the firewalls. A member of the company’s security team is said to have switched off the firewalls and thus enabled public access to the dealer’s customer databases. What the reason for this is is not yet known.
According to Gearbest, about 280,000 customers are affected. These are both new and existing customers who placed an order between 1 and 15 March. Affected users should be informed by e-mail.
