The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has used the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to rename the known USB standards and to introduce a new USB standard.
The standard formerly known as USB 3.0, which was then renamed USB 3.1 Gen1, is now known as USB 3.2 Gen1. The maximum speed is 5 GBit/s. USB 3.1 previously became USB 3.1 Gen2, now the 10 GBit/s fast standard is known as USB 3.1 Gen2.
The new standard USB 3.2 or USB 3.2 Gen2x2 offers a maximum transfer rate of 20 GBit/s, in contrast to the other standards which can be used via USB-A or USB-C connector, however, it is only usable with USB-C connection. This is because all RX/TX lanes of the USB-C cable must be used to reach the 20 GBit/s. The USB-C cable can only be used if the RX/TX lanes are used.
