Samsung introduced us to its new M.2 SSDs in mid-April 2018. Also the 970 EVO. True to the motto “Do what you can’t” Samsung always tries to outdo himself and on paper this seems to be a success. We test for you how the new SSD performs.
Of course, the SSD 970 EVO is again based on the NVMe standard and is connected directly to the mainboard via the M.2 interface. With SATA such high transfer rates as NVMe are not possible. Connected via PCI-Express 3.0 with 4 lanes, M.2 offers transfer rates of up to 4,000 MB/s and at this limit Samsung is damn close. Samsung states that the 970 EVO with 2 TB speeds of up to 3,500 MB/s read and 2,500 MB/s write and 500,000 IOPS read and 480,000 IOPS write respectively.
