Smart Home: Eve shows Matter and new devices at IFA 2022

IFA 2022 is already a few days behind us, but we still have some exciting news for you. Eve Systems showed Matter for the first time at the show, bringing smart home solutions that were previously reserved for the Apple ecosystem to the Android camp.

IFA 2022: Eve Systems to Show Matter

“Matter is coming this fall, and Eve is ready to go,” says Jerome Gackel, CEO of Eve Systems. “A whole range of Thread-enabled Eve devices are ready to push open the door to the future of the smart home”.

A total of 14 Eve devices will support Matter at launch, having previously been compatible exclusively with Apple HomeKit. With the help of a free firmware update, they can then also be used with other smart home ecosystems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings.

Commands will be implemented directly and without delay via various smart home solutions. Beyond these updates, Eve will release an Android version of the Eve app before the end of the year.

“We look forward to working with Eve to bring Frustration-Free Setup to all Matter-enabled Thread devices,” said Chris DeCenzo, senior principal engineer at Amazon. “This fully automated setup that adds new devices right when they are first turned on, as well as our support for Matter over Thread on millions of new and existing Echo and Eero products, are important steps in achieving a frictionless user experience for the smart home”.

Five New Products for Fall

Eve Systems also announced five new products for the fall and winter of 2022. Among them, for example, the Eve Shutter Switch, a switch for motorized shutters and blinds that will appear exclusively in Europe and is Thread-enabled.

Thanks to autonomous schedules, shutters can be opened and closed automatically. Using HomeKit automations in conjunction with light sensors like Eve Motion, shutters can even respond to sunlight.

Eve MotionBlinds is also growing. In addition to the roller blind variant, there will also be models for venetian blinds and honeycomb pleated blinds in the future. Exclusively for North America, they announced the Eve Light Switch, which will not only be expanded to include Thread, but also support for rooms with switch combinations.

This is designed to turn virtually any toggle switch into a smart option without having to replace a light fixture or bulb. The light can be switched on and off via app or Siri, as well as automated autonomously thanks to iPhone- and Internet-independent schedules.

Joining them is the Eve Outdoor Cam White Edition. The smart floodlight camera now comes in a white color scheme. It relies on a robust metal housing and offers an autonomously operating, dimmable motion light with ultra-strong brightness boost along with end-to-end encryption for added security.

Prices and availability

The Eve Shutter Switch will be available in December 2022 at a price of 99.95 euros directly from the manufacturer, as well as on Amazon. The Eve Outdoor Cam White Edition will be available in December at a price of 249.95 euros. Eve MotionBlinds for honeycomb pleats will be available worldwide, Eve MotionBlinds for blinds exclusively in Europe.
