New Alienware monitors: 1,080p at 360 Hz or 1,440p at 180 Hz

Dell has launched two new gaming monitors. The new models present buyers with the decision of whether they prefer a higher frame rate or a higher resolution. Regardless of the choice, Dell promises decent brightness, solid color space coverage, and AMD FreeSync Premium support.

Alienware AW2724HF: Bigger and Faster

The new Alienware AW2724HF steps up as the successor to the AW2523HF, and most importantly brings with it a larger 27-inch screen diagonal, which Dell says results in a 21 percent increase in screen real estate. The Fast IPS panel of the new model achieves a frame rate of 360 Hz, which is supposed to enable a response time of only 0.5 milliseconds.

AMD FreeSync Premium and VESA AdaptiveSync ensure that there is no image tearing when games are displayed at less than 360 frames per second. The monitor can be connected to a computer via DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 1.4, with frame rates limited to 255 Hz via HDMI. The panel offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, a brightness of 400 nits and a 99 percent representation of the sRGB color space. Dell has also integrated a four-port USB hub and the stand is height-adjustable.

Alienware AW2724DM: Higher resolution, lower frequency

The Alienware AW2724DM offers a native frame rate of can be overclocked up to 180 Hz via DisplayPort 1.4. The monitor uses an IPS panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a brightness of 400 nits. It covers 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color space and also supports AMD FreeSync Premium and VESA AdaptiveSync.

The AW2724DM offers a variety of connectivity options, including DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, and a four-port USB hub. The stand is height-adjustable and allows the monitor to tilt, swivel and rotate.

Price and Availability

The new Alienware monitors are available now. The AW2724HF is priced at €699, while the AW2724DM is available for €799. Both monitors come with a three-year warranty, which includes a premium panel service that allows the monitor to be replaced in the event of a single bright pixel.
