Plextor has introduced a new SSD series called M8V Plus, which is available in both M.2 and SATA versions and uses 96-layer 3D NAND flash from Kioxia (formerly Toshiba).
Versions and technical details
The SSDs appear with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. The new M8V Plus is the successor of the M8V series. Instead of 64-layer 3D TLC NAND flash, now 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash comes to Eisnatz, which is provided by Kioxia. The conversion is accompanied by an improvement in random access performance. Silicon Motion SM2258 is used as the controller for the new M8V Plus. Error correction mechanisms such as “data shaping”, “RAID engine” and “LDPC technology” ensure stability during data transfer.
Features of the M8V Plus SSD from Plextor are also impressive. With the “Plex Compressor”, files are automatically compressed after 30 days if they have not been used during this time. This helps to improve capacity efficiency. The “Plex Vault” protects your personal data. In addition, there is the intelligent Smart Cash function, called “Plex Turbo”.
The transfer speeds vary depending on the capacity. With the DDR3 DRAM cache, the transfer speed is up to 560 MB/sec for sequential reads and 520 MB/sec for sequential writes (510 MB/sec for the 256 GB version). Up to 90,000 IOPS (512 GB / 256 GB) or 85,000 IOPS (1 TB) are achieved in random read and up to 88,000 IOPS (512 GB / 256 GB) or 84,000 IOPS (1 TB) in write.
The write time of the SSD again varies depending on the model or capacity and is 560 TBW for the 1 TB version, 280 TBW for the 512 GB version and 140 TBW for the 256 GB model. In addition, there are 2.5 million hours MTBF and a 3-year product warranty.
Availability and price
The availability of new Plextor M8V Plus SSD is expected to be available in October, with availability depending on the region. The price is unfortunately not yet known.
