AMD recently published its sales figures for the past year. Achieved a very significant increase compared to the previous year, which is also due to the pandemic and the resulting massive increase in demand for computers and similar products.
Increased sales and record profit
All of AMD’s business units reported significant growth last year. Given the increased demand for computers, also due to the pandemic, the increase is not surprising; however, it is surprisingly significant. For example, the fourth quarter of 2020 saw revenues of $3.24 billion – the figure is 53 percent higher than the fourth quarter of 2019. Total 2020 revenues were $9.76 billion, 45 percent higher than the previous year. Profit for the year also increased significantly: It amounted to $2.49 billion, setting a new company record. In addition to the sharp rise in demand, a tax adjustment was responsible for this.
All divisions develop positively
All of AMD’s business units achieved higher sales than in the previous year. In the Computing and Graphics division, which includes Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics cards, sales were up eighteen percent. AMD primarily points to increased demand for Ryzen processors here. The most notable increase was in the enterprise, embedded and semi-custom segment, which includes Epyc processors and chips for game consoles: A 176 percent increase in sales was recorded here.
Positive Expectations for 2021
AMD also expects a positive development of sales figures for the current year. In the current quarter, revenue is expected to reach $3.2 billion, up 79 percent from the first quarter of 2020. For the full year, AMD expects revenue to increase 37 percent.
