Amazon announces Kindle Paperwhite Kids

Amazon has introduced the Kindle Paperwhite Kids, which is specially designed for children aged 7 and up. The new edition of the e-reader is waterproof and was developed specifically for reading books – distracting games, ads or videos are left out. A one-year membership to Amazon Kids+ with access to over a thousand books, a child-friendly cover and the 2-year worry-free guarantee are all included.

E-Reader specifically for kids

The Kindle Paperwhite Kids is the first time Amazon has offered an e-reader in the Paperwhite series specifically for children, after the Kindle Kids released around two years ago continues to enjoy enormous popularity.

The Kindle Paperwhite Kids is designed specifically for reading. It relies on an enlarged 6.8-inch (300 ppi) black-and-white display with no mirror effects, which also features a front light with adjustable color temperature, where the hue can be changed from white to a warm amber tone.

The e-reader is protected against accidental immersion in water and also comes with the 2-year worry-free warranty: if the device breaks, Amazon will replace it for free. The sturdy, child-sized case protects the device from scratches and stays securely closed with magnets.

At the same time, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids’ built-in battery also presents itself as enduring: it lasts up to 10 weeks on a single charge and can be fully recharged in just 2.5 hours when combined with a charging adapter with 9 watts of power or more.

Kid-friendly content and features

Every Kindle Paperwhite Kids includes a one-year membership to Amazon Kids+. This is a media library specifically designed for kid-friendly content. It provides access to over one thousand books – from timeless classics that parents remember from their own childhood to newer hits that kids love. Plus, the Kindle Paperwhite Kids has easy-to-use parental controls that allow parents to customize the reading experience to best suit their children.

Kids can discover popular titles like The Three ???, The Three !!!, TKKG, My Friend Conni, or Percy Jackson in Amazon Kids+. In addition, there are book series such as Beast Quest, The School of Magical Beasts or the Harry Potter series. In Amazon Kids+, children also get a wide selection of educational books and series such as Leselöwen, Bildermaus and many more. The selection also includes numerous titles recommended by Stiftung Lesen.

In addition, the library contains over one hundred audiobooks for children, including Bibi & Tina, Pippa Pepperkorn, classics such as Gulliver’s Travels or Amazon and Audible Originals such as The Village, The Mysterious Cookbook or Ghostsitter. Bluetooth-enabled speakers or headphones can be connected to the e-reader to play the audio content.

In addition, there are useful functions that should make reading with the Kindle Paperwhite Kids easier. For many books, the font size and font style can be adjusted to personal preferences and abilities. The integrated vocabulary trainer helps expand the vocabulary. In addition, the optional “OpenDyslexic” font is available for many books, which is especially preferred by readers with reading and spelling difficulties.
