Amazon Kindle: E-book reader now masters E-Pub format

E-book readers from Amazon’s Kindle series finally open up for the popular E-Pub format of digital books. Although there is still no native support, the display is now much more comfortable than before.

Amazon Kindle now E-Pub capable

E-Pub is the world’s most popular file format for electronic books, but Amazon Kindle readers still don’t master it even after 15 years on the market. Until now, owners had to resort to third-party software such as Calibre to convert e-books.

This annoying detour is finally no more, as the e-pub format finds its way onto the Amazon Kindle. Somehow, at least. So, starting at the end of 2022, Amazon will offer a feature called “Send to Kindle” that lets you email e-pub books to your reader.

In the notes on the part of Amazon regarding the display of documents on Kindle devices, it states:

From the end of 2022, “Send to Kindle” apps will support the EPUB format (.EPUB).

This will work on the one hand via email, but also by connecting the Kindle directly via PC, Mac or Android and transferring the e-books that way. The function is already available for other formats such as PDFs, Word documents and much more.

Amazon then handles the conversion to a Kindle-compliant format itself. However, this is only possible with files that do not have copy protection. Thus, up to 25 files can be transferred in just one email. At least, as long as the total size of 50 megabytes is not exceeded.
