E-car world record: German students succeed in accelerating from 0 to 100 in 1.46 seconds

Students at the University of Stuttgart have broken an e-car world record for the fastest acceleration. The “Green Team” created an electric bolide that accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 1.46 seconds.

E-car world record goes to German students

The University of Stuttgart’s GreenTeam has been competing in Formula Student since 2009 with an innovative electric racing car it developed itself, and has already been crowned German champion four times. Now the team has set an impressive e-car world record for the fastest acceleration.

Accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h, the race car named E0711-11 EVO pulverized the previous record, which was previously held by a team from Switzerland. The Stuttgart team broke the record on September 23, 2022, according to the official entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The race car managed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.461 seconds on the test track at the Robert Bosch Campus.

To put this in perspective, the recently unveiled Maserati Gran Turismo Folgore takes around 2.7 seconds for the sprint despite around 1,200 hp, the Lucid Air Sapphire allows itself two seconds and a modern Formula 1 bolide takes around 2.6 seconds for the same distance.

Carbon electric runabout

The Green Team’s specially developed E0711-11 EVO weighs just 173 kg and uses a full four electric motors, each producing 39.1 kW. Some of the components, from the sensors to the wheel hub motors, were developed by the students at the University of Stuttgart themselves.

The 7.67 kWh battery is cooled by air, while the wheel carriers come from the 3D printer. You can find all the details about the carbon e-car on the Website of GreenTeam Stuttgart.
