Google Home: Devices can now start routines on their own

Google has apparently quietly rolled out an exciting update for its smart home solution Google Home. This now allows devices to start processes and routines through actions. So far, however, the feature can only be tried out by a few users.

Google Home with new routines

There is a lot going on at Google at the moment. A few days ago, they introduced the new “My Ads Center”, which can be used to individualize online advertising. At the end of September, they presented abig update for search and Google Maps with many new features and then there are the new devices around Pixel 7 Pro (our review) or the Google Watch.

But the company’s own smart home system Google Home is also getting an inconspicuous but practical update. First users report that devices can now be used to trigger routines.

In the routines, it is now apparently possible to specify that something should happen when a device does something specific. For example, the coffee machine can be started when a light integrated into the smart home is switched on.

This is shown by Twitter user Sune H. Kuntz with a short example. Until now, the routines could only be started with the help of Google Assistant, at sunrise or sunset or at a predefined time.

However, it seems that the new feature for Google Home is not yet available across the board, and motion sensors are apparently not supported yet either. So Google seems to be testing the feature with selected users first. It remains to be seen when these routines will be fully introduced.
