Accessories for Cybertruck: users are disappointed with the roof tent

A roof tent is the perfect accessory for all pickup owners who fancy outdoor adventures. Tesla also offers a suitable gadget for its large-format Cybertruck. However, many buyers are now disappointed with the Tesla roof tent called Basecamp. There are several reasons for this.

Customized roof tent for Cybertruck

The initial euphoria surrounding Tesla’s Cybertruck is currently turning into a small disappointment for the limited number of buyers. We recently reported that the first models of the all-electric pickup have already started to rust and the community is naturally not at all happy about this.

Now there is another reason to complain. However, the focus is not on the Cybertruck itself, but on matching accessories. With the so-called Basecamp, the US car manufacturer is offering a tailor-made roof tent for the large-format truck. This was announced five years ago.

Now the first “lucky ones” have been able to enjoy the delivery of the outdoor gadget. However, the joy quickly gave way to a soured mood. After all, the now market-ready tent has nothing in common with the high-quality render image that Tesla showed publicly at the first presentation in 2019.

Instead, it is almost indistinguishable from a conventional roof tent. Given the price tag of a hefty 3,000 US dollars, this is of course anything but customer-friendly. The electromobility experts at Electrek have now reported on the huge disappointment on the part of customers.

Not only the price is causing annoyance

For the average consumer, the price of 3,000 US dollars for just a tent is enough to make you gasp. But with a base price of 61,000 US dollars for the Cybertruck, the Tesla pickup’s customers are probably quite willing to dig that deep into their pockets.

However, at this price you can also expect quality and ease of use. There seems to be a lack of both. In the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, for example, you can read that installing the tent is anything but easy. According to one report, even Tesla employees had problems fitting the tent properly.

Furthermore, there are said to be significant quality defects in the individual components of the tent, so that one may well doubt the longevity. The main point of criticism, however, is probably that a highly advertised feature is simply missing. And that is the tent mode. The Basecamp should actually allow you to always have a straight lying surface in the tent.

Especially when the Cybertruck is on rough ground, this should provide the necessary sleeping comfort. The manufacturer really needs to improve this. Tesla should probably also reconsider the price. After all, it won’t be long before third-party manufacturers come around the corner with suitable roof tents.
